The young Marauders on the tennis courts are struggling with a lack of experience, but are still making pushes for state qualifications.
The freshmen-heavy Mingus Union High School tennis squads are both in rebuilding years, but their upperclassmen are shining.
For the boys, junior Talon Walz is undefeated in singles, an impressive accomplishment at the mid-season point. He is expected to go deep in state as he is rated as one of the top three players in the Arizona.
“The season is going really good for me,” Walz said. “I’m 5-0, which going undefeated my entire season is my goal. My first sets have been close, but I pull away in the second sets pretty easily.”
