Verde Valley takes home championship 10-3

The place to be on the evening of July 11 was at Riverfront Park in Cottonwood for the Division 10 Little League All-Stars Majors 11-12 Tournament championship game.

Verde Valley Little League age 11 and 12 All-stars players and coaches tip their hats to the crowd after their win over Camp Verde in the District 10 Little League Regional Championship. Verde Valley heads to the state championship in Tucson on Wednesday, July 18.With the stands packed elbow-to-elbow, the Cottonwood-Camp Verde rivalry trickled down to the Little Leaguers as Team Verde Valley took on Team Camp Verde for the No. 1 title in the division.

“We are very excited for the championship,” Pete Kelly, manager of Verde Valley, said before the game. “I had high expectations for my team, and I expected to be here.”

Verde Valley already had beaten Camp Verde 8 to 1 in its second game of the tournament.

Tyler Kelly of Verde Valley started the game pitching a walk and a strike-out. After Patrick Hood of Camp Verde’s single, Rafael Zapata hit a double, leading to the first score of the night.
