The Camp Verde Little League softball team is on its way to the regional championship.

Camp Verde Little League Junior Softball All-stars player April Dodge keeps the bat singing during practice Thursday, July 27 (above). The team won the state Little League Softball Championships on July 23 and faces a Northern California team in the first round of Western States regional play in Tucson on Thursday, Aug. 2. And this is the first time in history the team has ever gotten this far.

Members of the Camp Verde Little League Juniors Division Softball team are the newly-crowned Junior Softball State Champions and in Tucson for the Western Regional tournament. They are representing Arizona and are facing the best teams from California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and Hawaii. Their first game will be against Northern California.

“It is wonderful,” said Henry Smith, team manager. “This is new territory for us, but the girls are a great example of how the sport should be played. They have worked so hard to be the state champs and are the perfect representatives of Arizona softball.”

The road to this victory consisted of triumphs and heartbreaking defeats.
