The Mingus Union High School Marauders took on their biggest rival in the annual Swim for the Cup on Thursday, Oct. 4, but the Sedona Red Rock High School Scorpions clutched the trophy for the second year in a row.
The second Swim for the Cup was held at the Sedona Community Pool, and the hunger to win was clear for both teams throughout every race through the close races and cheering teammates.
Overall, though, the Marauders came in second place, just behind the Scorpions.
“We had some kids swim in events that were mentally challenging for them and they performed very well in those races,” first-year MUHS Head Coach Brendon Kenney said. “It is a mental hurdle to enter events you have never competed in before, but several kids went out and swam hard and proved that they can swim in those races.
“We competed hard and swam well. Our relay teams on both the boys and girls side had strong showings and are continuing to improve as the season progresses.”
The official times and scores have not yet been calculated by the host team.
