The Mingus Union High School girls soccer team has begun to come together as a team, and it’s beginning to show.
“The first half started out slow but we picked it up in the second half,” senior Torey Braly said. “After our Vegas tournament, it is clear we’ve bonded as a team. We even played without two starters but it didn’t phase us in the least.” Mingus took a 2-0 lead in the first half and scored six goals in the second half including senior Anna Guerero’s penalty kick to go on and win, 8-0. At the Las Vegas Women’s Soccer Kick Off Tournament, the Marauders went 2-0-2 with big wins over Sierra Vista [4-2] and Green Valley [3-2] high schools while tieing with Liberty [1-1] and Palo Verde [0-0] high schools. With the victory over Bradshaw Mountain on Tuesday, the Marauders improved their record to 4-0-2 overall this season. Mingus is 2-0 in Arizona Interscholastic Association power point play so far in 2011-2012. Next up for Mingus, the Marauders are scheduled to play Coconino High School on Tuesday, Dec. 13. Official start time is set for 3 p.m. Another notable matchup for the Marauders will be Thursday, Dec. 15, at Sedona Red Rock High School. The two teams locked horns last season, with Mingus coming out on top, 1-0. The next time Mingus will be home is Wednesday, Jan. 4, against Prescott High School. Official start time against Prescott is set for 5 p.m. |
