Flagstaff Eagles spoil Marauders’ homecoming game, 24-14

Just past the halfway point of its season, the Mingus Marauders football team is getting into the meat of its schedule, playing games against some of its traditional rivals like Bradshaw Mountain, Flagstaff, Coconino and Prescott.

Tanner Caron goes back to pass in the Marauders' game against the Flagstaff Eagles on Friday, Oct. 4, in Cottonwood. In past years, games against these teams were important in that they usually served to vault the Marauders into the state playoffs.

But the importance of these games seems to be diminishing with every Marauders’ loss this season.
One of those rivals, the Flagstaff Eagles [3-3] traveled to Cottonwood on Friday, Oct. 4, to play the Marauders [1-5] in their Homecoming football game.

But despite the festive atmosphere that normally surrounds Homecoming, the Eagles left town with a rare 24-14 victory.

“Same stuff that’s been bothering us all year,” Marauders head coach Bob Young said. “It’s just our lack of execution at the point of attack. We’re just not getting it done.

“If you don’t block, it’s hard to gain ground. And it’s not just the linemen, it’s everybody.”
