The Cottonwood Clippers had a late end to an impressive summer Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Grand Canyon State Games.

Juniors Sean Williams and Kimberly Rogers, from left, work their legs with incoming Mingus Union High School freshman Gunner Tillemans while using a board to keep their upper bodies afloat at an early-morning practice for the Cottonwood Clippers at the Cottonwood Outdoor Public Pool. Williams and Tillemans medaled at the Grand Canyon State Games in Tempe to finish their season Saturday, Aug. 2.
Mingus Union High School junior swimmers Caleb Furey and Sean Williams, along with freshman Gunner Tillemans and 12 other Clippers swimmers, all medaled at the Arizona State University summer meet that officially ended the season for the Cottonwood recreational club team.

“They took a lot of firsts, they took a lot of seconds,” said Clippers head coach Daniel Nevarez, who drove down with Furey to watch the Marauders junior medal in three events. “Every single one of them did a fantastic job.”

Nevarez had every one of his A-prep and B-team swimmers taking at least one medal from five swim events most Clippers swimmers entered.
