Wastewater plant needs work

The Town of Camp Verde is looking at using a little under $1 million in funding provided through the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority of Arizona to finish improvements at the town’s wastewater treatment facility. The last approved improvement to Camp Verde’s wastewater treatment plant is the repair or replacement of the ultraviolet sanitation system, which has never worked properly. The current unit runs overtime without pause and overheats. Additionally, each UV plug must be cleaned of baked-on debris due to constant running, which shortens the life of the plug.

Voters approved a measure on the March ballot that allowed the Town of Camp Verde to take trusteeship of the Camp Verde Sanitary District, eventually effectively putting the district under town control.

The district was formed to provide sewer services to the community in the 1970s, years before the town incorporated in late 1986.

The improvements are required under the terms of an aquifer protection permit issued by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
