A proposed fire station for the Amante neighborhood in Verde Santa Fe won’t be built after neighborhood rules failed to support the proposal.Reserve Firefighter Patrick Wiatrolik, left, and Firefighter Paramedic Ivan Anderson work at the Verde Valley Fire District’s Station 31 in Cottonwood. The district is still looking for a location for a new fire station after one proposed for the Amante neighborhood near Verde Santa Fe in Cornville, a location roughly centered between Stations 31 and 32, which would have helped give the district better coverage, did not receive enough votes of support from Amante residents.

The neighborhood homeowners association, representing the few hundred homes near Cornville, had been in discussions with the Verde Valley Fire District for several months. The idea was to put a new fire station in the area where many relatively new houses have been built over the past decade or so.

The fire station was something that Jerry Madero said that, as vice president of the Amante neighborhood association, he felt the people in the neighborhood wanted. But the rules regulating its construction created an almost insurmountable obstacle.
