Troll fights against homelessness
Written by Jeff Wood

Another step has been taken in the effort to eliminate homelessness in the Verde Valley.

Troll Worfolk, a recent transplant to the Verde Valley from Southern California, talks Friday, March 23, about his plans to keep the newly homeless from becoming the perpetually homeless. Worfolk is hoping to create an organization charged with finding and maintaining sheltering space for a specific demographic of the homeless population before next winter’s cold weather settles in.The Verde Valley Homeless Cold Weather Shelter Project — spearheaded by Cottonwood resident Troll Worfolk — held its first meeting Saturday, March 24, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Clarkdale, electing a board of directors and planning future actions.

Wolfolk, who had originally intended to bring the group into existence then step back from it, will lead the group as president of the board.

Before the meeting, Worfolk, whose business card identifies him as a “Professional Agitator, Semi-Retired,” said, “It’s not my program. It’s the Verde Valley’s program. I don’t want it to become ‘Troll’s’ program.’”

After the meeting, he said, “I couldn’t get out of it!”

The Verde Valley Cold Weather Shelter Project will now work toward establishing a cold weather shelter system for the area’s homeless by the time temperatures drop in November.
