Tax collections down in valley

Transaction tax collections were down across municipalities in the Verde Valley in October compared to the same month last year, according to numbers released last month from the Arizona Department of Revenue Office of Economic Research and Analysis.Christian Monrreal, a cashier at a Camp Verde hardware store, checks a customer out on Saturday, Nov. 30, the day after Black Friday. Black Friday deals may cause an increase in retail sales numbers but will likely be gone after Christmas.

Cottonwood was the only community to see a jump in revenue collected.

The office keeps track of how much the state takes in from municipalities in transaction taxes, revenue collected from a wide range of economic activity from retail sales and hotel visits to construction and real estate deals.
