Rainbow Acres, a home for more than 90 adults with developmental disabilities affectionately referred to as ranchers, has been awarded a grant to help defray the costs of supplies for their Fine Arts Painting class.Debbie Tedford, a rancher at Rainbow Acres, proudly shows off her toucan painting on Thursday, Jan. 9, based on the stuffed bird hanging from the ceiling. Tedford has been going to the painting workshops put on by Michael Redhawk and Marlys Mallet, now that the establishment has funding for an art program.

The grant was awarded by the Arizona Commission on the Arts, said spokeswoman Margie Beach, but Rainbow Acres isn’t sure exactly how much they’ve gotten.

“We haven’t gotten a check yet, so I’d hate to say,” Beach said.

The arts program is just one of many activities offered to the residents at Rainbow Acres, founded in the 1970s and continuing to grow.
