Bad weather and slick roads contributed to a massive Thanksgiving pileup on I-17 leaving at least 10 people injured. It was a chaotic wreck that forced other motorists to delay their holiday plans. Full details were not available from the Arizona Department of Public Safety as of press time, but initial reports indicated that as many as eight vehicles were involved. The collision happened just after 2:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-17 near milepost 281, the point where the steep decent into the Verde Valley through Copper Canyon begins. The extent of the injuries was not immediately released. Some of the injured were taken to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment. The accident closed down both northbound lanes. One lane was reopened at 4 p.m., the other around 6:20 p.m. Mark Lineberger |
