Anyone with an Arizona Highways engagement calendar or classic wall calendar for the month of March might want to take a closer look at the photos.

Doug Sherman, a retired geology professor and current Cottonwood resident, talks March 15 about changes in the landscape photography business. Sherman’s interest in photography began to take a serious turn after he started receiving recognition for his stunning wildflower images.Doug Sherman, retired professor of geology and Cottonwood resident, took the photos of a barrel cactus at South Mountain Park in Phoenix and the fairy duster and blooming brittle brush at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument which grace those pages.

He also took the photos that accompany the engagement calendar pages for January to February, May, the 2013 preview, and the wall calendar’s December page.

Sherman, a nationally recognized photographer of landscapes and wildlife, has worked out of the Verde Valley since moving here in 2001.
