A local woman is being honored for her service to the community. Mary Eichman is set to receive the Accomplished Elder Award on Thursday, The carnival and award are being presented by the Area Agency on Aging and the Northern Arizona Council of Governments, a regional organization that works for the interests of local governments in Apache, Coconino, Navajo and Yavapai counties. Eichman has given her time to numerous causes in the Verde Valley. Currently serving her third term as the chairwoman of the Cottonwood Bookmarks/Friends of the Library, Eichman has been a key supporter of book sales that raised funds for shelving and computers in a time when the library budget was tight. Eichman also volunteers for Verde Valley Caregivers, using her own vehicle to transport people to medical appointments and to either take people shopping or just shop for them. For the full story, see the Wednesday, Oct. 3, edition of the Cottonwood Journal Extra. |
