The Camp Verde Marshal’s Office was busier last month than it was in July 2010, according to numbers released last week by the Town of Camp Verde.

Traffic offenses in town limits made up the biggest chunk of reported incidents with 251 for the month, nearly unchanged from the 253 reported the same period a year ago.

There were also two more traffic accidents, with 23 for the month on Camp Verde roads.

Eight assaults were reported, two of them serious enough to qualify as felonies. Only one misdemeanor assault was reported in July 2010.

There were six reported burglaries at businesses and six at residences for the month, up from only four home burglaries reported a year ago.

Deputies responded to 171 agency assist calls, incidents where the marshal’s office helps out another group be it another law enforcement agency or some other type of emergency responders. That’s up 40 from the same period last year continuing a trend of increased assist calls over several months.

It was America’s birthday last month and there were 12 reported fireworks violations, up from one a year earlier. The number of reported sex offenses doubled to two; deputies also reported looking at 101 cases of reported suspicious activity. There were no reported suicides for the month, the same as the year before, but deputies did get called about five dead bodies.

One automobile theft was reported in July, the same as the year before, and three abandoned vehicles were found in town. The office also received two reports of missing people, one juvenile runaway and nine incidents that involved minors. Only one weapons violation was reported, down from four in July 2010. Eight people were charged with DUI for the month, five cases of fraud were reported and deputies saw 10 reported cases of domestic violence.

There were 21 incidents of reported theft, up from 17 a year prior.

In other incidents, the office reported one case of child abuse and 17 incidents involving criminal damage. Additionally there were two reported alcohol offenses and six cases of threatening.

Deputies also reported that 26 alarms were activated throughout the month. No one reported any littering in July.

The Camp Verde Animal Control Department, which operates under the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office, answered 79 calls, up from 72 in July 2010.

In other numbers reported by the town:

• the town clerk’s office issued five new business licenses
• the town municipal court remitted $29,970 to the state treasurer’s office.

Crime data and other information for August is expected to be released later next month.
