Print County cancels Mingus election

There will be no election for candidates running for seats on the Mingus Union High School District Governing Board following measures taken by the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors at a special Friday, Sept. 14, meeting.

Anthony LozanoOriginally there were four candidates running for three open seats on the school board, the winners to be decided in the November general election.

Brenda ZenanRosalie Sperry, one of the candidates vying for a seat, officially withdrew her name from the race Sept. 10 in a signed statement filed with the Yavapai County Elections office.

Robb WilliamsIn a Sept. 11 email from Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter to MUHSD Superintendent Tim Foist, Carter wrote that he would be asking the Board of Supervisors to cancel the election.

On Friday, that’s exactly what they did.

The remaining three candidates, newcomers Anthony Lozano and Robb Williams, along with incumbent Brenda Zenan, will be directly appointed to full four-year terms office.

“They will be sworn in in January,” said Robin Bascom with the Yavapai County Education Service Agency.
