City dreams its future with new general plan

The city of Cottonwood is nearing the end of a process to finalize its general plan, a road map of sorts that serves as the city’s vision from 2015 to 2025.Luke Adams, of the Village of Oak Creek, often rides his bike to work, taking advantage of Sedona’s bike lane system. As a part of its general plan, Cottonwood plans on implementing a similar system.

“The general plan is a dream and a vision,” Mayor Diane Joens said.

The city held a public hearing last week at its May 20 meeting.

Charles Scully, a long- range planner for the city of Cottonwood, gave some background on the process.

Scully said the city is required by state law to have a general plan. Work on the most recent plan started back in summer of 2012, Scully said.

The city held a few workshops to get input from residents.
