The history of Jerome, high up on the mountain, is fairly well-known in the area.Diane Sward Rapaport has written a book focusing on Jerome. The former resident of the Verde Valley tells of the town’s decline and rebirth, as well as stories about interesting people from the mining town.

As home to what was one of the largest copper-producing areas in the world, the town grew to become the third-largest city in Arizona, home to some 15,000 residents.

Then the mines shut down, and the people who lived there left, except for a few.

The stories of what happened afterwards have been collected in a new book called “Home Sweet Jerome, Death and Rebirth of Arizona’s Richest Copper Mining City,” recently published from an author who lived in Jerome for more than two decades.

For the full story, see the Wednesday, April 30, edition of the Cottonwood Journal Extra.
