Glider pilots swoop into Cottonwood airport

Last weekend, people targeted Cottonwood from the skies and descended on the town.A motorized glider sits parked at the Cottonwood Airport on Thursday, June 12, the first day of the Touring Motor Glider Association fly-in. The crafts all can fly up to altitude on their own, rather than having to be towed, and then turn the motor off and glide.

It wasn’t dangerous, however, as everyone came to have a good time.

Library may be shortened

Camp Verde has been working for years to build a new modern library.Dianna Manasse, youth services librarian at Camp Verde Public Library, speaks about the new library building at the Town Council meeting on June 11. Manasse is in favor of the original two-story design for the building, while many others in town feel it is not in the budget, referring to it as a “Taj Mahal.”

The Town Council is considering different options to get the project completed in the face of the reality of available funding for the project.

Police raise funds for K-9 statue

A bronze statue of a police officer was recently unveiled in front of the Cottonwood Public Safety Building on Sixth Street, a memorial to all who have served in the line of duty in law enforcementCottonwood Police Department is considering a statue  representing K-9 dogs. Camp Verde Marshal’s Office has a similar memorial to its first K-9, Jake, however Cottonwood’s memorial would be a cast bronze police statue like “The Calling.”.

The temperatures may be rising, but on the other hand, this time of year means there are plenty of opportunities to get some fresh and locally-grown produce.Lillian Wasden and her brother Alistair are busy selling their home-grown, organic peaches on Monday, June 9, at the Cornville Farmers Market, held in Windmill Park. The Wasdens’ peaches are fed only water and sunlight, with no pesticides, and were fresh picked the morning of the market.

It’s farmers market season here in the Verde Valley.
