Beaver Creek residents aim to preserve historic school building

At the heart of the Beaver Creek School campus stands a small rock building.Located in the center of Beaver Creek School campus is a building known as the rock school, an old schoolhouse named for its composition. The building isn’t used as a part of regular classes due to its need for repairs.​

Several classroom and administrative buildings stand around it but the old rock schoolhouse used to be all there was to the school.

Council may OK library contract

The Camp Verde Town Council may give final approval this week and award a construction bid for a new community library.The back half of the Camp Verde Public Library is dedicated to the youth, but the space is shared by kids from elementary age all the way through high school. After a long process, bids have been accepted for a new library building’s construction, which will include a dedicated teen space.

The project has been in the works for years and has hit a few hiccups along the way.

Band gears up for a new season

Strike up the band, it’s a brand new year.With the woodwinds in front and the brass toward the rear, the Cottonwood Community Band assembles for practice. The band, led by conductor Will Norris, practices every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Cottonwood Middle School band room.​

As 2015 gets rolling, so does the Cottonwood Community Band. The band, made up of several musicians in the area, held its first meeting of the new concert season this week.

The Camp Verde Community Library is getting ready for round two of an innovative new program for kids.The Camp Verde Community Library recently received several science kits for its youth programs, donated by the Arizona State Library. The science activities will take place on the first and third Friday of the coming months from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

It’s called STEAM.
