Project supports restoring forests

The Salt River Project provides drinking water to residents in the Phoenix area, one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country.Along State Route 89A north of Sedona, Coconino National Forest becomes dense with foliage and towering trees. The Salt River Project provides much of the Phoenix area with water that originates in the forests of Northern Arizona. The project is working to preserve and restore ​forests before they are damaged in forest fires like the Slide Fire.

That water depends on sources from up north, including the Verde River.

Historic home tour organized

The Cottonwood Historic Preservation Commission is preparing for a tour of historic homes.The city of Cottonwood is preparing for its first Historic Home Tour to take place next month. Proceeds from the tour will be put toward restoring the Cottonwood civic center.​

It’s the first such tour in Cottonwood and organizers hope for the event to grow in the future.

Karstadt’s love of guitars reverberates into business

Ted Karstadt used to work for Intel down in the Valley of the Sun. Today, he’s his own boss.Ted Karstadt owns a little music shop off of State Route 89A in Cottonwood with his wife, Susie. Karstadt has been playing the guitar since at least high school, when he got his start strumming on a Sears Silvertone.

Town imposes new food tax

The Town of Camp Verde will implement a 3 percent tax on food starting Monday, Dec. 1.Dan Bramwell loads groceries into his truck after shopping at a Camp Verde grocery store. Camp Verde Town Council voted to remove an exemption on food sales taxes.

The measure comes after a 4-3 vote by the Town Council at its Sept. 17 meeting.
