CVMO may offer dogs for therapy

The Camp Verde Marshal’s Office is exploring offering a therapy dog program.Dogs have been called man’s best friend, due to their loyalty, playfulness, and protectiveness, as well as eagerness to please, as shown by Lucky Dog, owned by Jimmy Pierce. Because of these qualities, the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office is exploring the  implementation of a therapy dog program.

Local venue emulates popular music festival

For years, the South By Southwest music and media festivals have brought live music to Austin, Texas, and one venue in Cottonwood now wants to emulate the feel of the classic event.The band Aloha Radio will perform at Main Stage in Cottonwood on Friday, March 14, as part of the SxSMain Festival. The weeklong event is stylized on the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas.

Nurses reflect on early Verde Valley medicine

Back when Jerome was the most populous town in the Verde Valley, it also had the only hospital.The Clemenceau Heritage Museum held a Last Friday of the Month event on Feb. 28 featuring three nurses who worked in the Verde Valley in the 1950s. Barbara Evans, Darlene Calvert, and Leonor Nelson, from left, all shared their stories and experiences of how nursing used to be done, as compared to today’s modern technology, and gave a history of the hospital that became the VVMC.

After decades of service as a firefighter, Verde Valley Fire District Fire Marshal Mike Flummer is retiring this March.Verde Valley Fire District Fire Marshal Mike Flummer will be retiring after 36 years of service. Flummer worked as a manager of a fast food chain prior to becoming a firefighter, but once he signed up, he never looked back.

Local vet works with cat rescuers

A Town of Camp Verde veterinary clinic has been working with a cat rescue out of Flagstaff to make sure that some cats get medical treatment and, hopefully, new homes.Michelle Alagna, Certified Veterinary Technician at Montezuma Veterinary Services, lets Lady Grey out for a photo after much complaining of being locked up. The cat is part of a program the clinic is working with to find homes for cats in need.
