The Clarkdale Town Council listened last week as a grassroots group expressed concern about smart meters, which monitor electricity usage and transmit the data back to the power company.Traditional energy meters are mounted on the sides of homes and require a person, known as a “meter reader,” to physically come on location and record the numbers. Smart meters will eliminate the need for someone to physically record the information, sending it directly to the billing company instead in a fashion similar to a text message. However, some residents are concerned with levels of radiation smart meters may put out.
