Silas Gagnon loves his siblings. Even those he hasn’t met yet.Silas Gagnon, 11, of Camp Verde, is raising money to bring home his brother-to-be from Bulgaria in a most unusual way. Patrons can pay Silas to do a dare, like running around the high school track in a dress, which he will put towards funding the adoption.

His newest brother-to-be is already born.

Travis Black started wrestling when he was in the third grade.Travis Black has been a wrestling coach at Camp Verde High School for about six years. Originally from Brighton, Colo., Black started wrestling when he was in the third grade. He came to Arizona after serving three years in the Navy and has been in Camp Verde for nearly a decade.

His involvement with the sport continued all the way through high school.

Sally Epperson has called the Verde Valley home for around 30 years.Sally Epperson, a retired teacher, has called the Verde Valley home for around 30 years, and still works as a substitute when needed. It was a teaching job at Beaver Creek School that led Epperson to the Verde Valley. When not teaching, Epperson is fond of using metal detectors, and found a couple of wedding bands on her searches.

A retired educator, Epperson said she still works as a substitute when needed.

There are plenty of trees in Arizona.The leaves of the pecan trees of Camp Verde’s Pecan Lane have all but completely fallen. Camp Verde is currently trying to become a Tree City USA, a program that helps manage and protect forests across the country.

The Verde Valley is fortunate to have some of those trees, even if they aren’t part of one of America’s largest pine forests.

Sonya Stanchfield was in the Verde Valley for the first time last week along with her husband, John.Sonya Stanchfield was in the Verde Valley for the first time last week with her husband, John, to see Sedona. An artist and a farmer, Sonya is originally from Oregon, and now resides in Colorado, where the two grow vegetables.

An artist and farmer, Stanchfield said she was drawn to the area because the couple wanted to check out Sedona.
